Abstract

Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction is the main cause of death in the world. Life
expectancy has increased in recent years, consequently, there has been an increase in the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in adults over 80 years of age, who suffer from other comorbidities and frailty typical of age. Objective: To determine the factors associated with in-hospital mortality in patients over 80 years of age with acute myocardial infarction at the Hospital National Edgardo Rebagliati Martins. Materials and methods: Observational
retrospective cross-sectional descriptive correlational study of patients over 80 years of
age with acute myocardial infarction at the Hospital National Edgardo Martins. The medical records of the patients admitted during the period from January 1 to December 31, 2022 were analyzed through the registry of patients treated by the Cardiology service, as well as the catheterization registry of the catheterization room of the Hospital National Edgardo Rebagliati Martins. Results: A total of 50 patients were included in the analysis, of which 60% were women and the mean age was 85.1 ± 4.5 years. More than half of the patients reported arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus as the most frequent antecedents. On admission to the emergency room, 84% of the patients were diagnosed with non-ST elevated infarction and 28% underwent cardiac catheterization. Conclusion: Acute myocardial infarction was frequent in females, the most associated comorbidity was arterial hypertension, drug treatment was the
most frequent in this age group and there was significant mortality.
