Pressure ulcers (PU) are a common complication in bedridden patients, especially in those with limited access to adequate care. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between socioeconomic
factors and the prevalence of PPU in prostrate patients in urban areas of Peru. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study in which data were collected from prostrate participants in their homes in urban areas of Peru. Results: Data from 246 patients were analyzed, collecting information on socioeconomic level, access to health services, educational level of the caregiver, type of housing, family income and access to anti-decubitus devices. The
results indicate a 19.91% prevalence of PUs in the sample, with a strong association between low socioeconomic status and a higher prevalence of PUs. Conclusion: Low socioeconomic status, limited access to health services and primary education level of the caregiver are factors significantly associated with the prevalence of pressure ulcers in bedridden patients in urban
areas of Peru.
