Mucormycosis is a rare infectious disease that affects patients with poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, immunosuppressed and malnourished. This case report presents a 67-year-old male patient with poorly controlled diabetes, exposure to metal residues, and treatment with digoxin. The patient presented increased volume, pain and amaurosis in the left eye. Imaging studies, biopsy, surgical debridement and strict clinical and biochemical control were performed for the adverse effects of the treatment instituted. This case highlights the importance of timely recognition of rhino-orbital mucormycosis, the patient's exposure and pathological history, thus the hospital management strategy and strict monitoring for the adverse effects of treatment with amphotericin B.
